In this 6-week course, join award-winning author Mia Gallagher on a journey of discovery, exploring the work of outstanding female authors while learning to develop your own writing voice. Each workshop will include a discussion on work by a mix of Irish and international authors - exploring themes of Desire & Magic, Political Awakening, The Maid, Auto-Fiction, Dreams & Despair and Class & Comedy. Participants, if they wish, can also present their own work for feedback in a safe, constructive environment.

Mia Gallagher is the author of two acclaimed novels: HellFire, awarded the Irish Tatler Literature Award 2007, and Beautiful Pictures of the Lost Homeland, longlisted for the 2016 Republic of Consciousness Award. Her equally acclaimed debut short-story collection, Shift (New Island, 2018) includes ‘Polyfilla’, recently shortlisted for the 2018 Irish Book Awards.

An editor and mentor with over 25 years’ experience, Mia is currently a contributing editor with The Stinging Fly. She has received several Literature Bursaries from the Arts Council of Ireland, and has enjoyed the role of writer-in-residence in many environments. In 2018 she was elected a member of Aosdána.
