Fiction set in both the near and distant past is massively popular among readers and writers, but how do you create an authentic historical world? Award-winning writer Anna Carey, whose first historical novel The Making of Mollie was shortlisted for an Irish Book Award in 2016, will guide would-be historical fiction writers through the practicalities of the genre. Participants will explore historical research, from newspaper archives and old guidebooks to helpful historians, and will show them how not to get bogged down in it all when they should be writing their story.
Anna Carey is a journalist and award-winning author from Dublin who is regular contributor to the Irish Times and RTÉ. She has been writing features for Irish and British broadsheets and magazines since 1998 and her first novel, The Real Rebecca, won the Senior Children's Book of the Year prize at the 2011 Irish Book Awards.
