The key to good writing is to start thinking and talking about good writing and good writers. Read and question what you’re reading – and then write. Participants in this six-week course with Kevin Curran will be doing all three – reading, talking and writing. Along with your own work-in- progress, the course will look at, and take inspiration (and solace) from top writers’ idiosyncrasies and unique writing styles. Focus will fall on finding your voice, character development, setting, dialogue, editing, theme, plot and creating conflict and sustaining tension. Over the six weeks you will sharpen your critical eye and in the process improve your writing.

Kevin Curran is the author of two critically acclaimed novels, Beatsploitation (Liberties Press, 2013) and Citizens (Liberties Press, 2016). His short story, 'Saving Tanya', from Young Irelanders (New Island, 2015) was Longlisted for the Irish Book Awards ‘Short Story of the Year.’ This year he has published stories in The Tangerine and The Penny Dreadful and the anthology, Stinging Fly Stories. Non-fiction has appeared in The Guardian and the Observer. He teaches in Dublin.
