This course will explore becoming a writer, with an emphasis on the novel and short story. You will examine the fundamentals of craft, such as authenticity, voice, persuasion, form, tone, detail, dialogue and character. There will also be an emphasis on learning to read like a writer, with extracts from canonical writers such as Chekhov, Woolf, Kafka, Whitman, Flaubert and Tolstoy. Participants will also have an opportunity to discuss and receive feedback on their work.
Paul Lynch is the prize-winning author of Grace, The Black Snow and Red Sky in Morning. He has won France’s Prix Libr’à Nous for Best Foreign Novel.
