Confessional Writing with Róisín Agnew
Starts: Sat 8 Oct
Time: 10.30am – 4.30pm
Duration: 1 Day
Cost: €80/€70 Members
Participants will look at confessional writing in diary form, coterie writing, memoir and the rise of the personal essay. Confessional writing and the web will be covered, from tell-all culture to the notion of 'safe spaces'. Ultimately it will be addressed whether confessional writing is exploitative or emancipatory and whether it is art or tactic. There may be a short reading list in advance of this course. Róisín Agnew is a writer and journalist with an interest in pop culture and women's issues. She has worked for the Irish Times, Lonely Planet, and Sunday Times and she runs her own award-winning magazine Guts that specialises in confessional writing and illustration.
