Flash fiction can be read in a flash, but creating it should take longer. Like a cat trying to get into a small box, the necessary adjustments demand forethought, minimalism and compromise. In these workshops we will chisel away at pieces 6 to 500 words in length until only the best work remains. Concentrating on structure, immediacy, smokescreens, punchlines and excellent, sparse, prose, we will prepare your stories for submission to journals and competitions.

Denyse Woods, Writer-in-Residence at Cork County Council, is the author of six novels and the recent winner of the Florida Keys Hemingway Days Flash Fiction Award.
