Spring 2016 - this course has now passed.
This course is for writers who are setting their novels in the past. The main challenge of writing historical fiction is that of immersing the reader in a particular period and place without the prose becoming overburdened with historical information. Conor will lead discussions of examples of successful historical fiction and include topics such as world building; characterisation; drama; dialogue and plot resolution. Participants will also get to workshop excerpts of their work.
Conor Kostick is an award-winning novelist and historian. In 2015, he was appointed both President of the Irish Jury of the EU Prize for Literature and to the Board of the National Library of Ireland.Starts: Thur 4 Feb
