Irish Language Writer-led Project Funding | Maoiniú tograí faoi stiúradh scríbhneoirí

Key objectives of the funding

We constantly seek to enable writers to become independent thinkers in terms of their own sustainability and development as professional writers.  With this in mind, we have developed a new initiative offering writers the opportunity to develop ideas, projects, collaborations and literary supports in Irish.

We welcome writing projects across all literary genres including poetry, short stories, novels or songs and are exceptionally receptive to projects that have a multi-faceted approach with other arts disciplines, or indeed the creative aspects of an arts-focused business idea.

Proposed projects should fulfil the following criteria

  • Be in the Irish language.
  • Encourage new, original and innovative work in the Irish language by empowering writers to create their own projects.
  • Have a time line of no more than 1 year in duration, with an agreed start and end date.
  • Produce a tangible outcome which clearly addresses the proposed aims of the project and demonstrates the work achieved by participants.
  • Benefit one of the following groups or address one of the following issues in line with the Irish Writers Centre 5 year strategy:
    • Young people and their engagement with writing in the Irish language
    • Communities of place/interest/socio-economic disadvantage and their engagement with writing in the Irish language
    • North/South communities

For example, but not exclusively:

- Projects that develop artistic and creative practice and skills with the target group such as workshops.

- Projects creating something new and of high quality, such as the writing and publishing of books, poetry or plays.

- Projects which either present work to audiences, such as one-off performances, events or festivals.

- Projects which encourage more people to get involved in artistic and creative activity, such as participatory projects or activity which broadens - or removes barriers - to participation in literature, reaches more people and encourages more people to take part in writing in the Irish language.

Fee:

€2000 inclusive of VAT and expenses.  The successful recipient will be treated as an independent contractor and we will require invoice(s) to issue payment.

Eligibility:

This is an open call to Irish language writers resident in the island of Ireland. Applicants must fulfil at least three of the criteria as outlined by our Professional Membership. Writers do not have to be a Professional Member to apply.

Experience of leading creative projects is essential.

If the proposal includes any element of workshopping, then facilitation experience is required.  If the proposal includes working with young or vulnerable people, the facilitator must be compliant with garda vetting procedures (via Poetry Ireland).
