Book Launch: The West Cork Railway and Other Stories by Paul Kestell
Thursday 26 March
6.30pm–8.30pmThe West Cork Railway and Other Stories is part two of Paul Kestells series of novelettes set in West Cork. Part one The Mad Marys of Dunworley and other Stories was highly acclaimed.
Kestell continues where he left off in the Mad Marys taking on serious issues from unusual perspectives.
The title story deals with the closure of the West Cork railway back in 1961, and Kestell transports us back in time through the eyes of Billy a twelve year old who is doing a school project on the closure. However things get interesting when Billy's grandad offers a different perspective on events than the smart Miss Forde his school teacher.
Kestell brings us on a colourful journey with four more stories, dealing with strange and broken relationships-to the musings of a would be writer who is mother to an adult autistic daughter, and from there to the dark Mayo mountains during the civil war,and then finally to the fantasy of 'On This Almighty Road,' where two middle-aged washed up men get the chance of a lifetime as live in caretakers in a multi millionaires house.
Five 10,000-word novelettes for your delight.
