Professional Development for Writers

From news features to book-length projects, this workshop will focus on the art of the pitch and pursuing ambitious non-fiction stories. As a freelance writer and journalist for the past seven years, I draw on a diverse range of experience, from reporting abroad in countries including Syria, Turkey and Nigeria, to working on my first non-fiction book. I have written for a news wire and literary journals, produced multimedia online stories and reported in-depth magazine features. We will discuss genesis of ideas, development of projects, and the key to pitching successfully. We will also cover international fellowships and grants, developing contacts, and negotiating commissions.

This session is open to writers at any stage of their careers.

Caelainn Hogan is a writer and journalist with work published in The New York Times MagazineNational GeographicThe New YorkerHarper’s MagazineVICEThe GuardianThe Dublin Review and others.
