Booked Out: Online: Kick-start Your Creativity with Tracy Culleton
Starts: Mon 8 June 2020
Time: 9.00 am – 11.00 am Mon - Fri
Duration: 1 Week
All Irish Writers Centre remote courses take place on Irish Standard Time (GMT+1)
Each morning you will explore creativity, sharing and using tools that hack the brain into giving you ideas whenever you want. You'll examine the ways in which you get in your own way as writers, and explore how to get out of the way.
This course is suitable for all levels of writers as it's less about craft and more about creativity. It's also suitable whether you have a current work-in-progress or not. If so, bring it to the table, and if not, no problem, we'll get you stories to play with. After this week you will have the information and resources to forge ahead as a writer.
Day One: The purpose of Story. Why writers are doing great work and how this knowledge keeps us going when it's tough. Discussion of how we literally have three brains, and they each have different agendas, and how to get them working together. Exploring freewriting and using freewriting to write a letter from you to your writer-self and then from your writer-self to you.
Day Two: Exploration of your fears as writers, especially the unconscious ones and how to overcome those. Sharing the wonderful technique of EFT/Tapping which helps erase the fears.
Day Three: Using Mind-Mapping to explore ideas and get better ideas, not just the automatic tropes.
Day Four: Interviewing your character in a variety of guises to get the best information about them, and also plot ideas.
Day Five: The power of questions when writing. And equally the power of narrowness. You'll use these both to play and be profligate in creating stories, so that you learn there are an abundance of them.
