All Irish Writers Centre remote courses take place on Irish Standard Time (GMT)

Course Summary:

Reading and speaking publicly about your work, whether online or in person, can be daunting for a writer. For audiences, however, it can be a joy to hear the work read and gain insight into the creative process. There is also no doubt that public events sell books and build audiences for a writer’s work. Professional actors spend their careers dealing with nerves around performing but develop key skills that mentally and physically prepare them to perform at their best, no matter how nervous they feel. This accessible course will assist writers in learning these valuable skills.

Course Outline:

Six weeks performance skills training for emerging and established authors and poets who present their work publicly. In a relaxed environment, participants will learn how to cope with stress, and nerves around public readings, and how to develop an authentic empowered voice. Using drama, voice exercises, mindfulness and breathing techniques, you will leave with a learned set of skills that will enhance public appearances both in the virtual and the real world.

Course Outcomes:

The participants will gain a honed set of theatre-based performance skills that will enhance all public appearances, both in the virtual and the real world.
