Online: Travel the World in Words with Fióna Bolger
Starts: Mon 1st Feb 2021
Time: 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm
Duration: 3 Weeks
Course Level: Beginner/Emerging
All Irish Writers Centre remote courses take place on Irish Standard Time (GMT+1)
Here is an opportunity to travel through poetry. You will explore poems written by those who have moved between places and poems which themselves are located far from Dublin. If you are looking for new approaches to the practice of writing, new voices to join those already in your head and if you’d like to travel again, this time through poetry, here is the course for you. Week by week you will use poems to explore new places and ways of writing. Your paper sheet will become a magic carpet allowing you to travel and explore despite the restrictions.
- Locating place in a poem, placing location in a poem
- Postcard poems: Writing your holiday pics
- Whajisay? Or translating into poetry, finding poems in the space between languages
Each session will consist of close readings of poems, discussions and writing, which is then shared.
By the end of the course participants will have new ways to approach writing about place and thinking about language.

Praise for ‘All the Words in the World’ writing workshop in IWC, Dublin
I wanted to thank you again for this great workshop. I learned a lot both about texts by authors much better than myself (I never knew there were so many mind-blowing plurilingual poems out there!) and about my own writing. Your enthusiasm for the topic and your knowledge about it made it fun to attend the workshop as well, and I'm really grateful for that.- Marion Schulte
Thank you for a stimulating workshop and exploration of poetry. You brought my attention back to poets and forms I'd forgotten. I very much appreciated the poems you shared and your enthusiasm for language and poetry. The exercises got my mind going and pen (virtual in my case) moving. – Jamie O’Halloran
