Spring 2015 - this course has now passed.
This course, the fourth in the highly successful Reading Poetry series, addresses the tensions and energies behind the poetic work of the most recent decades – the influence of the universities, the continuing struggle for supremacy on either side of the Atlantic, the emergence of other English poetries in India, Australia and Scotland, the ambivalent links with popular music culture, and most especially the crucial influence of translated poetry from European and other languages. Harry Clifton, the convenor of the series, has recently completed his period as Ireland Professor of Poetry from 2010 to 2013.
