Run in partnership with the PUBLISHING TRAINING CENTRE, LONDON, and Publishing Ireland, this is a one-day masterclass to help editors rewrite text and restructure a manuscript, while retaining the author's voice.

Some content requires more than just a quick copy-edit. This course, which combines practical exercises with group discussion, will help you assess and improve these texts efficiently and effectively. You'll work on your own, in pairs and as a group to analyse the stylistic problems of different types of text, look at a range of solutions and adjust presentation and construction to guarantee effective communication. Learn how to explain why a piece of writing doesn’t work, present strategies for improving it, adjust its level and tone, apply the techniques learnt to any text to enhance its accessibility and sense.

This course contributes to PUB 14 and PUB 19 of the Book & Journal Publishing National Occupational Standards.

Andrew Steeds worked as a publisher in three of the major UK educational publishing companies before going freelance in 1992. He now runs Simply Put which offers writing, project management and consultancy to organisations that want to communicate more effectively with the full range of their readers.

Here's What Other Editors Thought:

"The trainer was excellent, he was very clear in sharing the course objectives and in ensuring that his teaching (input), activities and discussions met those objectives. He also had very good classroom and group management skills which meant that all the discussions and activities were genuinely constructive in meeting and exceeding the course objectives. I thoroughly enjoyed the course and felt that I learnt a great deal". - Anonymous
