Course members will be invited to take part in writing exercises in the room and to further develop their work between classes. Participants will share their own writing and give a constructive response to the writing of other group members, as well as to short writing samples by published short story writers. Each week we will focus on one aspect of writing: Building Characters, Creating Tension, Sense of Place, Writing Dialogue, Experimenting with Point of View and Drafting and Editing. Suitable for both beginning and committed short story writers.
Bernie McGill is the author of The Butterfly Cabinet (Julian Fellowes’ Guardian Novel of the Year 2012) and the short story collection Sleepwalkers. Her work is anthologised in The Glass Shore and in The Long Gaze Back. Her new novel, The Watch House, will be published in 2017.
