The Odyssey, Don Quixote, Eat Pray Love, Ferrante’s Neapolitan novels. We have always loved a story which evokes a sense of place. The best travel fiction satisfies our wanderlust and inspires us to follow in the footsteps of its characters. But what are the elements that make good travel fiction, and how do we go about writing our own? These are the questions this workshop will explore, through exercises, assignments, readings and discussion. Paula McGrath is the author of two critically acclaimed novels, Generation, and A History of Running Away, both published by John Murrays. She is a doctoral student and IRC scholar in UL. In another life, she was a yoga teacher.
