Writing successful contemporary fiction is a blend of creativity and learned skills. The aim of this course is to assist writers to realise their writing ambitions and potential by finding and using their expertise to create fiction for today’s market. The sessions are tailor-made to facilitate emerging writers and those with ongoing projects. Focus is primarily on creating strong story lines and page-turning characters, as well as scene-dynamics, settings, research, backstory – in other words, all the ingredients for a successful story.

Patricia O’Reilly has come the route of freelance print journalism, radio documentaries and plays, fiction and non-fiction books. Currently she teaches the writing of fiction in UCD and at various literary festivals. She has written 13 books. Her new book The First Rose of Tralee is about Mary O’Connor (182?-1845) the inspiration for the annual Rose of Tralee International Festival.
