Autumn 2016 - this course has now passed.
In this eight-week course, attendees will be introduced to some dynamic tools to help you open up your creativity around writing fiction. Through a high concentration of games and exercises commonly used in drama and improvisation, you will learn to develop fiction-writing skills in the basics of character development, voice, plotting, setting, scene-writing and dialogue. The course will be high-energy and fun and involve a mix of pair work and feedback leading to in-class writing exercises. Mia Gallagher’s acclaimed debut novel HellFire (Penguin Ireland, 2006) received the Irish Tatler Literature Award (2007). Her short fiction won the START award in 2005 and has been shortlisted for Hennessy, Fish and Trevor/Bowen Awards. Mia's second novel Beautiful Pictures of the Lost Homeland, published this May is already receiving considerable critical acclaim.
