In this six week course we will explore the wacky and wonderful world of writing for animation. From dreaming up a pitch, to elaborating an outline. Crafting your first draft, and your second, and your third… Pitfalls and possibilities. How to take notes, squeeze in that extra giggle, the logistics of compliance, the vagaries of networks, and how to navigate the do’s and don’ts of writing cartoons.

The course will focus on children’s animation –from preschool up. Some writing experience is preferable, though no prior experience in writing for children is necessary.
Dee Roycroft is a writer and story editor. She has just finished working with JAM Media on Jessy and Nessy, a brand new pre-school series for Amazon Studios, and is currently writing for Berry Bees, a series for 6-9 yr olds produced by Telegael/SLR Australia.
Dee has also story edited on the animation Peek Zoo for RTE/Igloo Productions, Mr. Mender for Fíbín Media/RTE/TG4, Little Roy for CBBC/RTÉ/JAM, and co-written both series of Firebrand Productions IFTA award-winning Mythical Heroes.
Her 10-part radio drama series for children, Mr. Wall, was nominated for a 2018 IMRO Drama Award, and she has also worked as a Script Editor on Fair City, in addition to co-ordinating its New Writers’ Programme. Dee has also been a core writer for RTÉ; writing for series such as Makers, Tell Me A Story, Dig-In Diner, and Mythical Heros.
