Our Venue

The Irish Writers Centre is an oasis of calm just yards from the bustle of Dublin’s central O’Connell Street. It is housed in a listed building which dates back to the 1760s and retains many of its original architectural features, making it an extraordinary setting for events and filming. We have previously hosted writers from Seamus Heaney and Paul Muldoon to Anne Enright and Sally Rooney.

When you step into the Irish Writers Centre, you’re stepping into history.

Parnell Square, where the building is located, is also steeped in history; formerly known as Rutland Square, the area recurs in the work of James Joyce, and in 1858 Charles Dickens read in the Rotunda Rooms just down the road! Further information on the surrounding area and building access can be found here.

Venue Hire

Function & Meeting Rooms

The Irish Writers Centre has four sizeable standard rooms available for hire. They seat between 12 and 16 people comfortably, and are ideal for seminars, workshops, meetings and more.

Additionally, we are home to a large function room (the Benedict Kiely Room). It seats up to 60 people (with greater capacity for standing) and is ideal for events including book launches, talks and more. There is an adjoining room which can be used to serve refreshments, to seat extra guests and to sell books.

The Kiely Room itself boasts ornately plastered ceilings and is adorned with art from the private FX Buckley Collection. It directly overlooks the Garden of Remembrance, a scenic backdrop for events.

If you are planning a book launch, our package includes listing on our website and in our newsletter, reaching a guaranteed audience of thousands.

All spaces are available for full day or half-day hire.

If you are interested in booking one of our standard rooms or our event space, please contact our Office Administrator (info@irishwriterscentre.ie) or call us on (+353) 1 872 1302. Our regular office hours are Monday to Thursday, from 10am until 5pm.

Please note that a 50% cancellation fee will be charged if the event is cancelled less than one month in advance of your booking. We are happy to review this for extenuating circumstances.
