About the Patrons Programme

The Irish Writers Centre Patrons Programme is an initiative to support emerging writers and the next generation of storytellers. It will bring together lovers of literature and those who want to play a meaningful role in developing our writing communities.

Become a Patron with a gift of €5,000. This generous commitment would enable us to:

  • Expand our creative writing and mentoring programmes
  • Curate more masterclasses and events to serve audiences nationwide
  • Broaden public engagement opportunities for writers to read/ perform their work
  • Fund more bursaries and residencies
  • Promote our work and our writers nationally and internationally

We also welcome supporters to choose their own level of donation and confirm all funds will contribute to our broad variety of programming. As a registered charity we are committed to maintaining good fundraising practice, providing transparency to all donors and the public on expenditure.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the individual and corporate patrons who have already invested in the future of Ireland’s writers: Marian Keyes, Kathy Gilfillan, Staycity, The Rooney Prize, and KPMG.

Their generosity has provided us with a strong foundation on which to build a lasting impact.

Leaving a Legacy

You can also support the Irish Writers Centre through leaving a legacy in your will. If you would like to have a lasting impact on the future of Irish literature, we would be happy to guide you through the process.

“Supporting Ireland’s writers is very important to me, especially up and coming writers. Writing is a lifelong commitment and writers need all the encouragement they can get. We have so much talent in this country but we need to build confidence and convince writers that their stories are worth telling. I’m honoured to be first patron of the Irish Writers Centre Patrons Programme and to help support fantastic new voices.”

Marian Keyes
Irish Writers Centre Ambassador and Patron

“Staycity is honoured to be a Patron of the Irish Writers Centre. As an Irish company, we take great pride in our shared reputation as a nation of storytellers. From seanchaí to screenwriters and everything in between, we are pleased to support this nurturing platform for emerging writers to ensure even more stories are continuously brought to life.”

Carmel Duffy
Chief People Officer, Staycity

“Supporting emerging Irish writers is a passion of mine, both through the Rooney Prize for Literature and now through the Patrons Program at the Irish Writers Centre. The vast and rich history of Irish storytelling is an aspect of Irish culture that must be fostered and nourished —what Japanese Kabuki is to Japan and champagne is to France, storytelling is to Ireland. But too often these important Irish voices get lost due to a lack of support. The Irish Writers Centre offers this support though, and I am proud to be part of their Patrons Program that contributes to the global legacy of Irish storytelling.”

Dr Peter Rooney
The Rooney Prize

“At KPMG, we are proud to champion the remarkable richness of writing talent across Ireland, north and south. We are committed to promoting the joy of reading and to supporting emerging writers, helping to celebrate diverse voices and storytelling.”
