Courses, Workshops and Events Booking Terms

All participants and attendees must be over 18 years of age to attend any course or event, whether online or in person, at the Irish Writers Centre.

Please note that course and event descriptions published on our platforms are intended as guides only. Facilitators reserve the right to vary the content where necessary in order to best accommodate participants’ needs and the dynamics of the group.

Refunds and Course Credit

If a participant cancels their place on a course two weeks or more before the start date, they will be offered either:

  • a refund, less a 10% booking fee; or
  • the full amount paid as course credit, which may be used to book another course.

If a participant cancels between two weeks and one week before the start of a course or event, they will be offered course credit only.

If a participant cancels one week or less before the start of a course, they will not be entitled to a refund. Credit may be offered, but this will depend on the circumstances, as courses require a minimum number of participants to run.

Course credit is valid for one year from the date of the original purchase.
Credit issued following the cancellation of a course may only be used to book another course.

For events, we can offer a refund, less a 10% booking fee, where cancellation is made at least three days in advance. After that point, refunds cannot be guaranteed and will be at the discretion of the Irish Writers Centre.

Course Cancellation and Modification

Occasionally, for reasons beyond our control, we may need to cancel a course. Where this happens, we will aim to contact participants at least four days in advance, although this may not always be possible depending on the circumstances.

We reserve the right to cancel, postpone, or amend course or event dates. In such cases, participants may either attend on the revised date or dates, or receive the full amount paid as either credit or a refund.

Purchase and Payment

Payment must be made in full at the time of booking. A booking is only confirmed once payment has been received.

Attending Courses, Workshops and Events

Late arrival to a course, workshop or event may disrupt the session. Admission after the scheduled start time is at the discretion of the facilitator or staff, who reserve the right to refuse entry even where a ticket has been purchased.

Facilitators and staff also reserve the right to ask a participant to leave a course, workshop or event if their behaviour is disruptive or otherwise not in accordance with our Code of Conduct. Any refund in such circumstances will be at the discretion of the Irish Writers Centre.

Refusal of Bookings

The Irish Writers Centre reserves the right to refuse any booking where it considers this necessary. This may include, but is not limited to, circumstances where a person has previously breached our Code of Conduct.

Membership Terms

>If you purchase a membership online, you are entitled to a 14-day cooling-off period under EU law. If you wish to cancel your membership within this period, you should contact the Irish Writers Centre. This cooling-off period applies only where none of the membership benefits have been used, including the issuing of a certificate of professional membership.

>Members must book writing spaces in advance by email or telephone.

Gift Vouchers Terms

Gift vouchers are valid for five years from the date of purchase.

Code of Conduct

You are required to conduct yourself appropriately in all dealings and correspondence with the Irish Writers Centre. If, in the opinion of the Irish Writers Centre, your behaviour is threatening, abusive, offensive or otherwise unacceptable, we reserve the right to bar you from the building and refuse any future dealings with you. In such circumstances, you will remain liable for the cost of any products or services purchased, and no refunds will be given.

Our Code of Conduct applies to everyone using services at the Centre, including courses, workshops, writing groups, membership, events and room hire.

GDPR and Privacy

The Irish Writers Centre is committed to protecting the privacy of its users in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018. Any personal data provided will be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and our Privacy Policy.

We may share your email address with course facilitators for course-related purposes. If you do not wish your email address to be shared in this way, please let us know.

Our Building

The Irish Writers Centre is open to the public at designated times, for example for book launches, in-person courses and open days, as advertised. If you wish to visit outside designated events or pre-booked arrangements, you must contact us in advance.

Members may use the building during the day as a writing space. These spaces must be booked in advance by emailing info@irishwriterscentre.ie.

The Irish Writers Centre is located at 19 Parnell Square, Dublin 1, in a Georgian building without a lift, which may make it unsuitable for those with mobility issues. While some events and courses take place on the ground floor, there are six external steps leading to the front door. If you have any questions or concerns about access, please contact us.

Information on Courses

Once you have paid for your course, you will receive an automatic booking confirmation email. For online courses, further details, including the Zoom link, will be sent a few days before the start date. The same Zoom link will be used for all course sessions.

We appreciate that some participants may benefit from online sessions being recorded. This can only take place where explicit written consent has been obtained from every course participant. Please speak to your facilitator if you wish to discuss this.
