Courses, workshops and events booking terms
All participants/attendees must be over the age of 18 to attend a course or event, online or in-person, at the Irish Writers Centre.
Please note that the course or event description advertised on our platforms is intended as a guide. The facilitator reserves the right to deviate somewhat from the description in order to best accommodate the needs of the participants and the dynamic of the group.
Refunds and course credit
Should a participant need to cancel their place on a courses two weeks or more before the start date, they will be offered a refund less 10% booking fee. They can also receive the full amount paid in course credit which can be used to book another course.
Should a participant need to cancel between two weeks and one week before the start of a course or event, they will be offered course credit.
Should a participant need to cancel one week or less prior to the start of their course, they will not be entitled to a refund. They may receive credit but this is dependent on the course circumstances. Courses need a certain number of participants to run.
Credit is valid for one year from date of initial purchase.
Credit received from the cancellation of a course can only be used to book another course.
For events, we can offer a refund (less 10% booking fee) for cancellation if we are contacted three days in advance of the event. After that, we cannot guarantee a refund, they are at the discretion of the Irish Writers Centre.
Course cancellation and modification
Sometimes, due to reasons beyond our control, we will have to cancel a course. In the case of a course being cancelled, we will aim to contact participants four days in advance. This may not always be possible, depending on the reason for cancellation.
We reserve the right to cancel, postpone or modify course/event dates. In such a case, participants can attend the modified date/dates or receive the amount paid in full as credit or as a refund.
Purchase and payment
Payment is required in full at time of purchase. A course booking can only be confirmed once payment has been received.
Attending courses
Arriving late to courses/events/workshops can disrupt the session. Late entry is at the discretion of the facilitator or staff and they reserve the right to refuse admission, even if a ticket has been paid for.
Facilitators/staff also reserve the right to ask a participant to leave a course/event/workshop if their behaviour is disruptive and or not in line with our code of conduct. Refunds are at the discretion of the Irish Writers Centre.
Refusal
The Irish Writers Centre reserves the right to refuse any bookings should they deem it necessary. This could be due to, but not limited to, previous breaches of our code of conduct by a person.
Membership terms
If you purchase a membership online, you are entitled to a 14-day cooling-off period under EU law. You should contact the Irish Writers Centre if you want to cancel your membership within this timeframe. This only applies if you have not used any of the benefits our membership offers (including the issuing of a certificate of professional membership).
Members must booking writing spaces in advance. You can do so by emailing or ringing us.
Gift vouchers terms
Gift vouchers are valid for 5 years from date of initial purchase.
Code of conduct
You are required to conduct yourself in an appropriate manner during all dealings and correspondence with the Irish Writers Centre. If you behave in a manner which, in the opinion of the Irish Writers Centre, is threatening, abusive, offensive or otherwise unacceptable, the Irish Writers Centre will have the right to bar you from the building and refuse future dealings with you. You will remain liable to pay the price for products you have purchased and no refunds will be given.
Our Code of Conduct applies to everyone using the services at the Centre, including courses, workshops, writing groups, membership, events and room hire.
Complaints
In the event that you are unhappy with a service the Irish Writers Centre provides, please let us know as soon as possible. We will acknowledge your complaints within seven days and do everything we can do resolve it within 21 days. Please contact us at info@irishwriterscentre.ie.
GDPR
The Irish Writers Centre is committed to protecting the privacy of our users in accordance with the Irish Data Protection Act 2018. Any personal data provided will be processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and our privacy policy.
We may share your email with facilitators for course purposes. If you do not wish your email so shared, please let us know. You can read our full Privacy Policy HERE.
Liability
We are not responsible for any costs or expenses you incur as a result of our cancelling of a course.
Our building
The Irish Writers Centre is open to the public at designated times, for example for book launches, in-person courses, open days etc., as advertised. If you wish to visit outside designated events or pre-booked arrangements, it is necessary to contact us in advance.
Members can use the building during the day to write in. Members must book these writing spaces by emailing us at info@irishwriterscentre.ie.
The Irish Writers Centre is housed in 19 Parnell Square, Dublin 1, a Georgian building without a lift which can make it unsuitable to those with mobility issues. While some events/courses take place on the ground floor, there are 6 external steps you need to access to reach the front door. If you have any questions or concerns about access, please contact us.
Information on courses
You will receive an automatic booking confirmation email once you have paid for your course. For online courses, will we send out further course details with a Zoom link a few days before the start date. This Zoom link will be used for all course sessions.
We appreciate that some participants may benefit from online sessions being recorded. This can only be done with the explicit written consent by each course participant. Please talk to your facilitator about this.
