This course will take place in-person on Saturday  11 October (5 hours + one hour for lunch) at the Irish Writers Centre.

Course Summary

Celebrate with poet Enda Wyley the impressive varieties of form and creative energies that connect in the making of great poems. Be inspired by the work of established poets and be guided in your own poetry writing. Simple writing prompts will be given in class. There will be no pressure on anyone to share new work – but if participants are happy to do so, this masterclass will be an encouraging and positive environment for new poems to be celebrated. A one-day masterclass in poetry which will be enjoyable, varied, interactive and inspiring.

There will be a one-hour break for lunch.


Course Outline

Content for this one-day day poetry masterclass with poet Enda Wyley will include encountering work by established poets, the value of enjoying poetry, prompts into writing, the power of imagery, poetry and form, the sonic and visual power of poetry, how to edit and improve a poem, and how to remain focused as readers and writers of poetry.


Course Outcomes

Participants will take away from this one-day masterclass an increased enthusiasm for poetry – the reading and writing of it, and a deeper understanding of the making of poetry. They will also feel encouraged and confident enough to keep writing and to continue to follow their own individual journey as emerging poets.


Biography

Enda Wyley’s six collections include Sudden Light ( October 2025 ), The Painter on his Bike (2019); she has also published Borrowed Space: New and Selected Poems (2014), all from Dedalus Press. Among her awards are the Vincent Buckley Poetry Prize, Melbourne University, and a Reading Association of Ireland Award. Her work has been frequently broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1. She is an experienced teacher of poetry, co-hosts the popular podcast Books for Breakfast, and is a member of Aosdána.
