Course Summary

This course is for writers starting out and beginners trying to find their genre, be it in fiction, memoir, short story, poetry or a novel.


Course Outline

You will explore different writing genres with hands-on exercises, reading the works of established writers and workshopping the participants’ own work. This critiquing will be done in an encouraging and friendly atmosphere along with tips and advice.

 

 


Course Outcomes

By the end of the eight weeks participants should have a clearer idea of what writing entails and how to pursue it.


Jean O’Brien is an award-winning poet with five collections to her name, her most recent New & Selected, Fish on a Bicycle came out from Salmon in late 2016. She has facilitated many creative writing workshops and masterclasses in places as diverse as festivals, schools, community groups, prisons and libraries and she holds an M.Phil from Trinity College Dublin. She was awarded the Patrick and Katherine Kavanagh Fellowship in January 2018. Jean’s 6th collection Stars Burn Regardless is imminent from Salmon Poetry
