Course Summary
Learn about the craft of scriptwriting and make a plan to finish your script. This course will explore how to plot compelling stories through dialogue and character and equip you with tools to experiment formally and structurally with your plays and film scripts. Applicants will ideally have a draft or an idea for a script they would like to develop.
Course Outline
This course will focus on character development, world building, narrative structure, and refining your script’s dramatic arc. Sessions will include peer feedback, practical exercises and guidance on articulating your creative intentions with confidence. Nearing the end of the course there will also be time dedicated to advice on what to do with your script once it’s finished. Specific individual tasks will be given to participants on a weekly basis, how much or how little work is done outside of class is up to them. Sharing work is encouraged but not enforced.
Course Outcomes
Participants will come away with new or improved scriptwriting skills and either a finished script or a detailed plan in place.
Caitríona Daly is a multi-awardwinning screenwriter and playwright from Dublin. Her work has been produced by The Abbey Theatre, Fishamble: The New Play Company and she has written for TV shows on RTE and the BBC. ‘Mary is Missing’ the short film that she wrote with director Aisling Byrne was recently awarded the Oscar Qualifying Grand Prix at the Cork International Film Festival in 2026. Her work is published by Nick Hern Books and has been translated and produced internationally.
