Course Summary

Journey into poetry with poet Enda Wyley and encounter the impressive varieties of form and creative energies that connect in the making of great poems. Be inspired by the work of established poets and be guided in your own poetry writing. Simple writing prompts will be given in class. There will be no pressure on anyone to share new work – but if participants are happy to do so, this 4-week online course will be an encouraging and positive environment for new poems to be celebrated – enjoyable, varied, interactive and inspiring.


Course Outline

Content for this 4-week online poetry course with poet Enda Wyley will include encountering work by established poets, the value of enjoying poetry, prompts into writing, the power of imagery, poetry and form, the sonic and visual power of poetry, how to edit and improve a poem, and how to remain focused as readers and writers of poetry.


Course Outcomes

Participants will take away from this 4-week poetry course an increased enthusiasm for poetry – the reading and writing of it, and a deeper understanding of the making of poetry. They will also feel encouraged and confident enough to keep writing and to continue to follow their own individual journey as emerging poets.


Enda Wyley’s seven collections include Sudden Light, (2025 ) Dedalus Press, The Painter on his Bike (2019) and Borrowed Space: New and Selected Poems (2014). She is the 2026 recipient of the Lawrence O’Shaughnessy Poetry Prize, St Thomas University, Minnesota. Among her awards are the Vincent Buckley Poetry Prize, Melbourne University, and a Reading Association of Ireland Award. She is an experienced teacher of poetry, co-hosts the popular podcast Books for Breakfast, and is a member of Aosdána.
