This course will take place at the Irish Writers Centre on 21 October. There will be an hour break for lunch.
Course Summary
This one-day course introduces participants to a variety of novel approaches to fiction making, encouraging them to follow and develop their own unique vision and practice.
It is suitable for the wilder kind of writer at any stage of their career: those who feel they don’t fit in, and don’t want to either.
During this fast-moving workshop participants will generate new material in a variety of avant-garde forms including collage/cut-up, erasure, auto-fiction, and docufiction.
Course Outcomes
At the end of the workshop will have gained confidence in continuing to explore and experiment in the search for their own unique storytelling technique.
Dave Lordan is a seminal figure in Irish fiction’s new wave whose work as mentor and editor for The Stinging Fly and anthologist for RTE and New Island Press launched many contemporary writing careers. His own uncategorizable First Book of Frags remains unmatched in the 21st century for its novelty and daring and was excerpted for inclusion alongside Joyce, Beckett, et al in Rob Doyle’s The Other Irish Tradition, the first and only anthology of the Irish Experimental Tradition, published by Dalkey Archive Press.
