This course will take place online on Saturdays (four sessions in total). 

Course Summary

For new writers and those returning to the page this summer, join us online for a friendly and supportive writing community on Saturday mornings. A four-week practical course of thought-provoking exercises, recommended reading, sharing of new work, and goal setting.

Ideal for beginners who are getting started and for writers returning from a break.

Saturday’s All Write will include:

  • Prompts and exercises
  • Recommended reading (short stories, flash, poetry)
  • Lively group discussion
  • Sharing of work (optional)
  • Homework to motivate your writing in between sessions (optional)

Course Outline

Each week includes 3 exercises plus 1 to try at home.

Week 1: Memory and imagination

Week 2: Who/what you want to know

Week 3: All the senses, plus sense of humour

Week 4: Keep it lit for the summer, plan your creative actions

Homework and sharing of work are optional. Each week there will be opportunities to read brief excerpts from your work for writing community feedback.


Course Outcomes

Participants will experience the benefits of a supportive writing community and be given the opportunity to forge their own writing tribe to continue after the course.

Participants will generate new work and ideas to create a personal writing project.


Fiona O’Rourke’s short stories, autofiction, and essays have been published, broadcast, and translated, and her debut novel was selected for the Irish Writers Centre Novel Fair. Since earning an MPhil in Creative Writing at Trinity College Dublin, she has facilitated courses in community, libraries and festivals, and provided mentorships for individuals. She was the curator and facilitator for Writing the Troubles, Creative Responses to The Political Collection, and Northern Soul Roadshow.
