Course Summary

For new writers and those getting back to the page this summer, join us online for a friendly and supportive Saturday’s All Write writing community. A six-week practical course of thought-provoking exercises, recommended reading, sharing of new work, and a celebration showcase in week 6.

Ideal for beginners to get started and for writers returning from a break.

This writing community will include:

  • prompts and exercises
  • recommended reading (short stories, flash, poetry)
  • lively group discussion
  • small groups
  • sharing of work (optional)
  • homework to motivate your writing in between sessions
  • week 6 end of course celebration showcase (optional)

Course Outline

Each week includes 3 exercises plus 1 to try at home:

Week 1 Write here write now: notebook, pen, memory, imagination

Week 2 Who you know/who you want to know

Week 3 All the senses plus sense of humour

Week 4 What-if — fictionalise true events

Week 5 A new ending

Week 6 Keep it lit AND end of course showcase readings

Homework and sharing of work are optional. Each week there will be opportunities to read brief excerpts from your work for writing community feedback.


Course Outcomes

Participants will experience the benefits of a supportive writing community and be given the opportunity to forge their own writing tribe to continue after the course.

Participants will generate new work and ideas to create a personal writing project.

 

 

 


Fiona O’Rourke’s short stories, autofiction, essays, and accidental poetry have been published, broadcast, and translated. Her debut novel was a joint winner at the Irish Writers Centre Novel Fair 2016. Since earning an MPhil in Creative Writing at Trinity College Dublin, she has facilitated courses in community, libraries and festivals, and provided mentorships for individuals. She is the curator and facilitator for Northern Soul Roadshow and the organiser for Open Mic for Gaza.
