Course Content

This is a course suitable for poets who want to improve their skills and develop new work; for those who are aiming for significant development in their writing, reading and critical practices. The course will focus on editing and developing your poems-in-progress, alongside providing inspiration from a broad range of poetry to expand your practice and push your writing to the next level. You can expect to be challenged and invigorated in your reading and writing.

Course Outline

Each week will begin with discussion of a published poem, or poems, providing an opportunity to discuss both the work of published poets and issues in contemporary poetry. Each week will have suggestions for further writing. We will then read and discuss your poems-in-progress, developing familiarity with each other’s work and offering detailed feedback with the aim of moving your writing forward through reading, discussion, feedback, re-drafting and discussion of poetics and direction.

Course Outcomes

Poets in this workshop will develop new work and benefit from in-depth group discussion of both contemporary poetry and their own their work in a supportive critical environment.
