This course will take place in person at the Irish Writers Centre as part of our ‘Words on the Page Summer Sessions’ -a week of in-person intensive courses.
Course Summary
Learn the nuts and bolts of crime fiction with author of the Inishowen Mysteries, Andrea Carter. In this taster workshop we’ll discuss some of the elements that make up a good crime novel: voice, setting and character. You may also be asked to solve a mystery!
At the end of the week, participants are invited to sign up to read their work at a showcase on Friday 10th July from 5-7pm.
Andrea Carter is the author of seven crime novels. She graduated in law from Trinity College, Dublin. Having practised law for twenty years, both as a solicitor and barrister, she now writes full time. She holds a first-class MFA in Creative Writing from UCD. Her short story The Lamb was shortlisted for the Irish Book Awards. The Inishowen Mysteries series is in development for television. Her first standalone thriller There Came a-Tapping was published in March 2025 to critical acclaim.
