Do you have a goose-bump worthy story in your mind that you’ve been wanting to write about but standing between you and your readers is the dreaded Blank Page?! Well, if you do, why not join Melatu Uche Okorie for some fun tips and writing exercises that can help you conquer the blank page. The 3 hour, in-person workshop is tailored for storytelling beginners who are interested in learning simple tools to start them on their writing journey.
This workshop will take place at the Irish Writers Centre.
Facilitator details:
Melatu Uche Okorie is a Nigerian-born writer, educator and scholar based in Ireland. Born in Enugu, the Eastern region of Nigeria, Melatu moved to Ireland in 2006. Her first foray into writing was with her short story, Gathering Thoughts, which won the Metro Eireann Short Story Award 2007. Melatu has an MPhil in Creative Writing from Trinity College Dublin. Her stories have been featured in the Faber & Faber Irish Short Stories anthology and The Art of the Glimpse: 100 Irish Short Stories); made into short film and transcribed into audio stories. Melatu has been described as a brave and important voice in Irish literature and her writing widely praised for its honesty, depth and compassion. In addition to her writing, Melatu is also a dedicated educator and has taught writing and literature at various universities and institutions in Ireland.
She is a strong advocate for diversity in literature and has worked to create opportunities for marginalised voices to be heard. She’s best known for her critically acclaimed collection of short stories, This Hostel Life, published in 2018 and transcribed into an operatic piece by the Irish National Opera in 2019.
This workshop, aimed at the global majority writing community in Ireland, has been made possible by the support of Dublin City Council, enabling the price of the workshop to be adjusted to ensure it remains accessible to writers in differing economic circumstances.
