Eoin Colfer in Conversation with Patricia Forde

For the first in our series of interviews join Patricia Forde, writer and former Laureate na nÓg, as she interviews Eoin Colfer, one of Ireland's most celebrated writers, about his life, his extraordinary body of work, and his enduring fascination with storytelling, imagination, and the creative process.

Eoin Colfer is the author of the internationally best-selling Artemis Fowl books which have sold over thirty million copies worldwide. Artemis Fowl is the only book by a living Irish writer to feature in the BBC’s Big Read list of the UK’s favourite 100 books and was crowned the voting public’s favourite Puffin Classic of all time. Other titles include The Wish List, The Supernaturalist and the Legends series for younger readers. Eoin’s books have won several international awards including The British Children’s Book of the Year, The Irish World Literature Award and The German Children’s Book of the Year.
The BBC made a hit series based on his book Half Moon Investigations, and Kenneth Branagh directed the Disney movie version of Artemis Fowl starring Colin Farrell and Judi Dench. Eoin’s first adult novel And Another Thing, part 6 of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy series was a 2009 best-seller and the audiobook version won the Audie award for best Science Fiction in NYC. Eoin has collaborated with celebrated Irish artists PJ Lynch, Oliver Jeffers and Chris Judge on the books Three Tasks for A Dragon, Imaginary Fred and Cloud Babies.
For the stage Eoin has written the plays My Real Life and Holy Mary, and the Christmas musical Noël with composer Liam Bates.
Eoin was the Irish Children’s Laureate from 2014-2016.

Patricia Forde is a Galway based, award winning children and young people’s writer and former Laureate na nÓg. She writes in Irish and in English, and has written both picture books and novels as well as many television programmes and one film for children. Her latest offerings include: The Island of the Bees illustrated by Paddy Donnelly and Letters to a Giant illustratrd by Sarah Warburton.
