Recognising AI Writing: The Basics with Catherine Prasifka

AI writing is becoming harder to spot, and writers are getting increasingly anxious that their work will falsely be accused of being AI. While there is no foolproof way to identify AI writing, there are a number of strange qualities to AI writing that make it standout from human authored work. This course will use AI generated examples to highlight common patterns in AI writing: negative parallelism, enforced vagueness, over reliance upon imagery, and lack of narrative through line, amongst others.

This will be a single two hour session. Participants will be given a handout with AI generated texts that I have generated and be invited to read and dissect them. Participants will leave with a greater awareness of the capabilities and limitations of AI writing, and a keener eye for spotting it.
