Course Summary:

This course will go into detail on setting up a WordPress blog including must-have plug-ins, widgets, customising appearance, layout etc. A discussion of the pros and cons of having a WordPress blog vs. hosting a website on WordPress (yourname.wordpress.org vs yourname.com) Deep dive on Search Engine Optimization and the tools available to ensure your blog as seen by Google.


Course Outline:

-Introduction

-How To Set up a WordPress Blog

-Website vs. Blog: what to choose as a beginner

-Widgets, Plugins, Appearance: The Must-Haves

-SEO: What is that all about?

-Content: Connecting Through Social Media (A teaser for Workshop 2)


Course Outcomes:

Participants will come away with an understanding of how to set up a blog, how to design and customize it so it becomes a reflection of their values and personality, and how to optimize each blog for SEO. After that all they need to do is write!

 

 

 


Daragh Fleming is an author and blogger from Cork, Ireland. He runs the award-winning mental health blog Thoughts Too Big. He currently has two collections of short stories published by Riversong Books as well as work appearing in several literary magazines including The Ogham Stone and Époque Magazine. Fleming won the Cork Arts ‘From The Well’ Short Story Competition in 2021. His debut in nonfiction, Lonely Boy is due for release in November with BookHub Publishing. Daragh is also the Faberlull writer-in-residence for October 2022 in Olot, Spain.
