Course Summary

You’ve had the story in your head for a long time but the problem is putting it down on paper. This six-week course will help interested writers to get over the limbo of wanting to write to actual writing: providing guidance from the first line to the first paragraph, the first page, the first chapter and hopefully, the first finished story.

This course will take place in-person on Saturdays (six sessions in total). It will not take place on Saturday, 25th October and will therefore run over seven weeks.

Course Outline

An interactive series of workshops, participants will work as a group in the first week to create a story together. They will together, discuss, choose and decide on the characters, setting, plot and first few lines of the story. There will be discussion and exercises on characterization, plot, setting, dialogue and the use of story elements.

Course Outcomes

The course is for those who have an unfinished manuscript, or a story in their heads. Writers will be supported through the often daunting task of thinking about filling the blank pages to finishing the story alongside other first-time writers like themselves.

Melatu Uche Okorie is an Irish based writer. Her passion is encouraging reluctant writers to write. Her book This Hostel Life was published by Skein Press in 2018.
