Amethyst Country – is a contemporary novel set on Achill Island – by Mary Lennon

It interweaves the stories of two characters: Helen, trying to escape her own sorrows while researching painter, Grace Henry, whose life and work is overshadowed by her more famous husband Paul Henry; and Finn, back home after the building crash becomes reluctantly involved with a group who want to memorialize the island’s tattie hokers. Through their two voices the novel explores painful personal loss, the price of artistic commitment and keeping faith with the past.
