This workshop will focus on exploring the aims, ethics and uses of confessional writing. Using the question of autobiography in A Portrait of The Artist as a Young Man as a starting point, it will take into account essays, poetry and fiction, from Simone Weil to W.D. Snodgrass to Karl Ove Knausgaard. It will question the relationship between first person narration and confession, the blurring of fact and fiction, and memory and perception, with a particular focus on the gendered perception of the genre.
Megan Nolan is a writer and artist based in London. Her essays have been published in The Guardian, The Village Voice, and EROS Journal. She has read her work across the UK, Ireland and internationally including IMMA and South London Gallery. She is represented by David Higham and Associates.
