Join writer and facilitator Cauvery Madhavan for two hours of creative writing exercises in a supportive workshop environment. Share your thoughts and life experiences through new pieces of poetry or prose in a variety of genres.

New Irish Communities was established in 2015 by the Irish Writers Centre and is funded by Dublin City Council. The mission of the group is to create access for non-native English speakers to write creatively in English. These sessions are ideal for beginner and emerging writers.

How does New Irish Communities work?

Each stand alone session lasts two hours and will consist of the following:

• Creative writing exercises

• Close readings

• Group discussion

• Critique and feedback of work

• Recommended reading

New Irish Communities is a space for writers to make connections and learn to write creatively with an experienced facilitator.

Please note, it is not necessary to have attended any previous New Irish Communities sessions to join in, but it is necessary to sign up.

Cauvery Madhavan was born in India and moved to Ireland thirty-three years ago, arriving on Valentines Day and, despite the Irish weather, has been in love with the country ever since. Cauvery is the author of four books of fiction – Paddy Indian, The Uncoupling, The Tainted and The Inheritance. She writes opinion pieces for the Irish Times and wrote a Saturday column for the Evening Herald for seven years. She has also contributed to the Sunday Tribune, The Phoenix and Travel Extra.  She lives with her husband and three children in County Kildare.

Access our Building

The Irish Writers Centre is currently housed in 19 Parnell Square, Dublin 1. This is a Georgian building which unfortunately does not have a lift. There are 5 steps into the entrance level. The majority of the event’s activities will take place in the Strong room which is on the second floor and requires climbing 55 steps in total. Please do inform us of any accessibility requirements you might have before the event so we can make any necessary arrangements.

If you have any questions about the event, please email info@irishwriterscentre.ie.
