For centuries, daring women have defied the limitations of their world and changed things for the better. Their stories are ripe for both fiction and biography. But how does a writer bring them to life? Martina Devlin is a successful historical fiction writer who blends fact and fiction in an imaginative way in her short story collection, Truth & Dare. Her daylong master class will share insights into how to make figures from history seem relevant today.

Martina Devlin has written 10 books including two historical novels and a collection, Truth & Dare: Short Stories About Women Who Shaped Ireland – she adapted one of the stories, about Countess Markievicz, for the stage as What Would The Countess Say? Prizes include the Royal Society of Literature’s V.S. Pritchett Prize, a Hennessy Literary Award and she was shortlisted three times for the Irish Book Awards. She writes a weekly current affairs column for the Irish Independent and has been named National Newspapers of Ireland commentator of the year. More details on
